Today, we're happy to share with you our conversation with content creator and lifestyle blogger Cat Fields from Los Angeles, California.
We wanted to get to know a little bit more about who she is, how she got into her field, and where she's going on her creative journey. Here's how it went:
Thanks for taking the time to chat with us Cat! We're excited to have you as our next feature and learn more about you as a creative. Let's start this off with you sharing exactly what it was that initially drew you to your craft, and how has your journey unfolded since then?
Cat Fields: My creative journey began with French content creation. While I was living abroad in France, I was sharing my life, my growing beliefs and European tales via snaps and stories. I decided to expand on that through sharing more of my personal life online, as well as provide spiritual and flowerful tools that I picked up while soloing it out in Paris. Coming back to the California, I was pursuing content creation full time for the first 6 months I was back, building a platform for myself in order to spread my messages. After six months of living at home, focusing mainly on my content, I had moved out of the San Fernando Valley to DTLA in order to be closer to the LA scenes that I wished to infiltrate. To give myself the space to fully grow into the creative individual I always was, but never allowed myself to be.
The plot is currently twisting, as most creative journeys do, and we are in the beginning stages of Kitty's unfolding, in a rather blooming manner. I cannot speak too much of this unfolding, since I too do not know all the details in its entirety yet, but it's looking like Kitty is now going to be embarking on her music journey as well as dabbling her paws into acting.
Can you share some insights into your creative process? Where do you find inspiration, and how do you translate that into your work?
Cat Fields: Nature has always been a source of inspiration, freedom, and creativity for me. Whenever I feel anything but good, or simply wish to feel better, I look to nature as my outlet. For I find my safety in the seas and peace of mind in the mountains. It's evident from my flower content to the sacred garden I'm creating, that nature is my guiding source. I remember when I first started making content, I didn't know what to call my audience. Then as I looked back at the recording, I watched myself basking under the Parisienne sun, admiring the foreign French vegetables and flowers in the Belleville Garden.
The clarity always comes to me after a good nature sesh. It was from there I learned to call my girls "les fleurs" a French translation to "the flowers". Falling back on the aspects of life that bring me the most joy and security has allowed me to transmute my feelings into art, my pain to poetry, and my experiences into content. The process of translating is rather fluid for me, like water flowing down a stream, when nature is your studio.
What projects are you currently working on, and what excites you the most about them?
Cat Fields: Currently working on my YouTube debut. Very excited because the platform itself is so different from my other social media that I can give my flowers a more intimate and personal experience over there. Also, the type of content I'll be sharing on YT will be a different, showcasing a more authentic side of me. The YouTube soil is so rich, I can see myself growing a very beautiful garden there. A sacred space where we can all interact more wholly and also; I can shine more of my true self. Yay for YouTube! Thinking more long term, I'm in the process of writing a book, which won't be published for some time, but it'll be all about my flower journey. Stoked for that dream to come true one day.
Looking back on your career so far, what would you consider to be your proudest achievement or most memorable moment?
Cat Fields: I'm going to have to shed some light on Milk Room and say that my proudest achievement thus far is my Milk Room PR Interview. Shoutout Jiovani who conducted the interview and Rob for organizing it. Listen, because I'm so early on my flower journey, having my first PR interview really meant a lot to me. And I know damn well it won't be my last, but still as a creative artist, could you ever really forget your first one? I won't. I had fun with the whole process, from prepping answers to shooting content and spilling flower milk tea publicly. It felt like a sort of debut for me, affirming to the world that this is what I'm doing. Your girl is for real about her flower Journey. And that was really beautiful to claim. How do you navigate challenges and setbacks in your field, and what advice would you give to aspiring creatives facing similar obstacles?
Cat Fields: I always try my best to go with the flow. When you surrender to the process, it's easier to roll with the punches instead of getting hung up on one particular outcome or set back. When challenges inevitably come up, I take it on as exactly that, a challenge. I can either let it hinder me, or I can grow from it. I have the mindset that everything is a lesson. So, when I'm seeing roadblocks or weeds sprout up on my journey, I take a step back and try to analyze things from a higher perspective. Why is this weed block here? What is spirit trying to tell me? I fall back on my faith, reconnect to nature and learn to work with the forces instead of against them.
Often times that means pivoting or beginning anew in a different part of my garden. It's okay to exit a certain situation if it isn't pleasing you anymore, perhaps other areas of life need tending to, or maybe it's about digging up all the soil and starting anew again with bigger, better intentions. Whatever it is, don't let it get to you and definitely don't let it stop you from doing what you're here to do. Remember your purpose and passion.
In an industry constantly evolving, how do you stay innovative and relevant while maintaining your unique voice/style?
Cat Fields: To be honest, your girl is constantly evolving as well, sometimes even faster than the industry. As a content créatrice, I'd rather be a trendsetter than a follower of trends. I don't even follow most trends, because I feel like that goes against the whole point of being a creator. I chose this path because I wanted to create, not follow. But if I am to follow a trend that I like, I recreate it in my own authentic voice aka add some flower juice. The evolution part is easy for me since I follow moon cycles and adapt to change like leaves of the autumn season. There's always room for growth and innovation when you are dedicated to your own blooming, and let nature lead the way. Staying relevant is a bit harder. It can be tempting to follow trends when the creative flower juices run dry. But again, it's hard for me to create from a space that doesn't feel like my own, even if it is a cute space. Some trends I have to admire from a distance, honoring their beauty yet recognizing that they don't align with me and my craft. I often find myself divinely guided down unknown walkways, expressing myself in the online shadows. It is there that I find my truest voice and style. From the rather lonely depths of the gram, I can resurface anew, brightened star, ready to share her light discoveries with any willing to listen.
Can you talk about any collaborations or partnerships that have been particularly meaningful or impactful for you?
Cat Fields: Raphaella was a clothing brand I discovered while walking the streets of DTLA. They told me that everything was designed and manufactured in LA, which I loved, since I'm born and raised in this city. It's rare to find clothing that is also sustainably produced here in the angel city. Learning more about the brand, I came to find out that it's family run, founded by a Hispanic woman who came to the U.S. in her teenage years to work in garment production, but finally has fulfilled a lifelong dream of creating her own brand, Raphaella. I was in love at this point. Not only with the cute top I had just purchased, but with the story and the woman responsible for these clothes. It matters a lot to me where I spend my money, and I was so stoked to support her and her blooming brand. Fast forward a couple months later, they asked me to be a model in their first LAFW. It was my first time as well, not only working with a clothing brand, but doing runway modeling.
Such a special experience for me and I was so grateful to share my first runway with Raphaella, a company that I truly supported and admired. Now I'm working with them via PR to help promote their beautiful brand and I'm so excited to see where things grow and go. GodMoss is a LA based sea moss brand that I stumbled upon at my local farmer's market. As you can tell, I adore supporting small, local businesses. The GodMoss boss saw the young goddess in me and gave me an opportunity to collaborate. Twas my first sponsorship and it meant the world to me. There will be many more collaborations, PR packages and sponsorships in the near future. But I don't think I'll ever forget my first two, Raphaella & GodMoss. It's the people that believed in me when I was so early on in my flower journey that fill my heart with such gratitude. And as I continue to grow, I wish to do the same for others.
What do you hope audiences or consumers take away from your work, and what impact do you aspire to make in your industry?
Cat Fields: My dying wish for my flowers is for them to follow their own inner fire and let that fuel their passion for life. The whole point of me documenting my flower journey is to show them that anything is possible for them, if and only if, they allow it to be. It is a beautifully daunting journey of self-discovery that I am on, and I walk this unknown mystery path into the depths of my own subconscious dreams and aspirations, in hopes that I can blaze a trail for others to discover their own true soul calling (with a little less fire that I used to get through).
I wish to be remembered as a light for young women and girls around the world to follow, to discover, and learn to live in their truest alignment and highest self. I hope by shining my light and following my heart, I can inspire others to do the same. May my legacy on this earth be a continuation of all the beautiful and powerful women who came before me. May my voice heal souls, my words ignite flames of burning passion in those to follow in the footsteps of Kitty Fields.
Lastly, what message or piece of wisdom would you like to share with your fans, or anyone inspired by your journey?
Cat Fields: Look in the mirror and love your beautiful self. Look within your soul and uncover your purpose. Look around you and be grateful for everything that is.
