Today, we're happy to share with you our conversation with recording artist Menthol Prince, member of the GhettyBoy$, from Long Beach, California.
We wanted to get to know a little bit more about who he is, how he got into the music industry, and where him and the group are going on their creative journey. Here's how it went:
Thanks for taking the time to chat with us Menthol Prince! We're excited to have you as our next feature and learn more about you as a musician. Let's start this off with you sharing exactly what it was that initially drew you to your craft, and how has your journey unfolded since then?
Menthol Prince: The journey so far has been amazing. There have been a lot of challenges, ups, and downs, but I face each one of them with my head held high and a positive attitude.
Can you share some insights into your creative process? Where do you find inspiration, and how do you translate that into your work?
Menthol Prince: Some inspirations for me include artists like Playboi Carti and others who changed the structure of music. I admire people who challenge the norm, blend genres, and constantly adapt to do different things. In my own creative process, I’m always trying to push boundaries, change the game, and do something unique. I feel that this approach is a crucial and pivotal part in my work.
What projects are you currently working on, and what excites you the most about them?
Menthol Prince: I’m currently sitting on three albums right now and what excites me the most about them is their diversity. One has a Suicide Boys vibe, another is focused on straight bars with lyrical rap, and the third is an alt-rock album with some indie influences. The uniqueness of each project makes them all super exciting for me.
Looking back on your career so far, what would you consider to be your proudest achievement or most memorable moment?
Menthol Prince: I think our most memorable moment so far would be opening for O3 Greedo. It was such a great show, and the venue was packed with so many people in there. If not that, then going on tour. Going on tour was an amazing experience, being on the road for the first time for like two weeks straight. It was incredible and made me feel super proud and accomplished doing both of those things.
How do you navigate challenges and setbacks in your field, and what advice would you give to aspiring creatives facing similar obstacles?
Menthol Prince: The way I navigate challenging setbacks is always with a positive attitude. For me, that’s the most important part. You go through things every single day, and you just have to face and overcome them with positivity. That’s the number one advice I always give to people in this field.
In an industry constantly evolving, how do you stay innovative and relevant while maintaining your unique voice/style?
Menthol Prince: With the industry constantly evolving, the way I stay innovative is by always keeping up with what’s new. I listen to an album each day, usually exploring new genres and fields, always absorbing fresh sounds. I experiment with things I like, draw inspiration from what I find fascinating, and continuously work on changing my voice, whether through effects or vocal practice.
Can you talk about any collaborations or partnerships that have been particularly meaningful or impactful for you?
Menthol Prince: There are many collaborations and partnerships that I find meaningful. I’m working with a lot of people right now, including the GhettyBoy$ members, Danny Boy, and Solo Dope. We’re creating some serious heat. I’m collaborating with artists all over Santa Ana, OC, Long Beach, and LA. I try to connect and be a friendly face and a smile with every artist I meet, offering branches of friendship and always expanding my network. Each and every person I work with has a deep impact on me in a unique way.
What do you hope audiences or consumers take away from your work, and what impact do you aspire to make in your industry?
Menthol Prince: What I want people to take away from my work is an understanding of my goal to blend genres, ideas, and create stories. Some are meant to be taken seriously, while others are intended to be lighthearted or purely for storytelling. I want to prove that art, especially music, is meant to push boundaries, create vibes, evoke emotions, and make lasting memories. That’s what I aim for in my work.
Lastly, what message or piece of wisdom would you like to share with your fans, or anyone inspired by your journey?
Menthol Prince: A piece of wisdom I’d like to share is to live life day by day. It’s all about the journey, not just the goal. You have to enjoy the little things because there are so many small joys in this journey. Without them, it would be a very dull world.
