Today, we're happy to share with you our conversation with recording artist Lil Pickle from Ventura, California.
We wanted to get to know a little bit more about who he is, how he got into the music industry, and where he's going on his creative journey. Here's how it went:
Thanks for taking the time to chat with us Lil Pickle! We're excited to have you as our next feature and learn more about you as a musician. Let's start this off with you sharing exactly what it was that initially drew you to your craft, and how has your journey unfolded since then?
Lil Pickle: Ever since I was very little, I have always had a love for music. Since I was a baby, my dad would play music on the TV or on his laptop. Artists like Kanye West, Frank Ocean, 2Pac, A Tribe Called Quest, even Odd Future, music has always been around me. In eighth grade I threw a concert at my school. The whole school came out, but it got shut down and eventually the police showed up and that story made it into the newspaper. That’s when I knew I wanted to be a rapper. Now, I put the music I make on all platforms for people to listen to in hopes of becoming a successful artist one day.
Can you share some insights into your creative process? Where do you find inspiration, and how do you translate that into your work?
Lil Pickle: A lot of my inspiration comes from the artists I listen to and things that are around me. My creative process starts with me just thinking of lyrics in my head and writing them down my note's app, then finding a beat and translating those thoughts onto that same beat. Usually, I record with my friends so we will brainstorm together and try to think of something collaboratively.
What projects are you currently working on, and what excites you the most about them?
Lil Pickle: Right now, I’m exploring beat making and producing, while also trying to work on a solo project of six songs that will have no features!
Looking back on your career so far, what would you consider to be your proudest achievement or most memorable moment?
Lil Pickle: My proudest achievement would be receiving over 20,000 streams on my first ever project that I dropped on all streaming platforms. My most memorable moment of my career would be that concert I threw in eighth grade that got shut down by the cops.
How do you navigate challenges and setbacks in your field, and what advice would you give to aspiring creatives facing similar obstacles?
Lil Pickle: As of right now, whenever I receive challenges in my career, I take a moment to just think and take a break for a day or two. Then come back when I’m ready. I'd say to just take your time. Have patience with your creative mind and always be yourself.
In an industry constantly evolving, how do you stay innovative and relevant while maintaining your unique voice/style?
Lil Pickle: Even though the industry is evolving, I just always try to be myself and remember that people will like me for that, but I also do take a little bit of inspiration from all of my favorite artists and combine that with my own style.
Can you talk about any collaborations or partnerships that have been particularly meaningful or impactful for you?
Lil Pickle: The mystery shop is where I had my first ever show and it didn’t go as planned, but it was still really fun! I performed at another show with the Milk Room in Woodland Hills and that one was extremely fun as well.
What do you hope audiences or consumers take away from your work, and what impact do you aspire to make in your industry?
Lil Pickle: I just hope that the audience or consumers know that I’m only 15 years old, just a kid trying to have fun. The music will evolve and get better overtime and I will become successful at what I do.
Lastly, what message or piece of wisdom would you like to share with your fans, or anyone inspired by your journey?
Lil Pickle: My message would be to do the things you love and love the things that you do. Also, don’t be afraid. People will hate, but you just have to push through that.
Lil Pickle, thank you again for giving us the chance to get to more about you. Now, the floor is yours, share with us the links people can use to find more of your work, as well as any special announcements or projects you have coming up in the near future!
