Community Spotlight: Meet photographer Loui B from Reseda, California.

Today, we're happy to share with you our conversation with photographer Loui B from Reseda, California.
We wanted to get to know a little bit more about who he is, how he got into his field, and where he's going on his creative journey. Here's how it went:

Thanks for taking the time to chat with us Loui B! We're excited to have you as our next feature and learn more about you as a musician. Let's start this off with you sharing exactly what it was that initially drew you to your craft, and how has your journey unfolded since then?
Loui B: Just trying to be different from my family who believed in straight forward jobs, takes me back 14 years when I first played a piano in middle school. It all unfolded very fast and smoothly, but it’s like that one saying, “I wanted to eat so I can’t complain now that my plates full."

Can you share some insights into your creative process? Where do you find inspiration, and how do you translate that into your work?
Loui BMy inspiration is everyone around me. Yes, it’s been very trial and error, with who is around that actually inspires me, but I think after so many years of being around I’m more than glad that the small group of people around me today that keep me inspired with everyday motions and thoughts. Aside from everyday people and Pinterest of course. I translate all my inspiration into many mediums from music, to beats, art, photography, fashion, and also cars. I believe that we are only as creative as one's mind allows you to be, so that’s why I love being a part of every cultural scene where it’s underground or mainstream art is art.

What projects are you currently working on, and what excites you the most about them?
Loui BJust did a few theme shoots that are getting ready to roll out for the fall and some sample pieces for my brand.

Looking back on your career so far, what would you consider to be your proudest achievement or most memorable moment?
Loui BOpening a store with my older brother cause it’s a long story as to where it came to where it’s at now. Overcoming the post-breakup depression, I had during the most crucial points in my life because I never knew it until the end of that wave, that everyone was watching me, making sure I’m okay because just like everything else in my life everyone knows I’ll just use it as fuel to make the next big wave.

How do you navigate challenges and setbacks in your field, and what advice would you give to aspiring creatives facing similar obstacles?
Loui BI soak it in. A lot of people will lie and say, "oh I do this and that", but to be honest, I don’t do anything I just sit back let it soak and once it’s soaked, I look at what my options are and who’s all around once the storm clears. I think I move this way cause being in an industry where a lot of people play for gain and not for genuine connections makes it hard at times to see who’s there to help and who’s there for their own gain. Not saying don’t work with others because a lot of people might have the answer to that one thing, we need help with, and vice versa.

In an industry constantly evolving, how do you stay innovative and relevant while maintaining your unique voice/style?
Loui BConfidence. That’s my biggest thing is showing up confident like even if things go “out of style” or are “irrelevant” I believe as a designer and creative we don’t have lines to maintain, but just to learn to be comfortable in our own skin. At the end of the day someone is going to fuck with my style, the way I talk and the way I walk. I’m not here for the millions. I’m here for the few that feel like they don’t have much going for them.

Can you talk about any collaborations or partnerships that have been particularly meaningful or impactful for you?
Loui BThe two biggest partnerships I’ve had... well honestly, I no longer see them as partners, I see them as my extended family. And it's crazy because for me and a lot of others I feel like there’s really only two pillars in the valley that did and are doing their thang. That’s why PLAYOFFS and Milk Room are two of the best collabs I’ve been able to be a part of just because both pillars gave me the keys to become a better version of myself and that says it all.

What do you hope audiences or consumers take away from your work, and what impact do you aspire to make in your industry?
Loui BTo be true. Fuck the likes, fuck the clout, just be you and let the rest come along to you.

Lastly, what message or piece of wisdom would you like to share with your fans, or anyone inspired by your journey?
Loui BDon’t give up. Devotion, devotion, devotion.
